Calgary Newborn Photography

A birth of a baby is one of life's most precious moments and an important family milestone! 

Becoming a Mother or a Father changes your life and who you are. We gain not only a new status, but a new beautiful experience, new personal qualities, a new level of skills. Documenting this new beginning preserves what we feel holding a tiny human. When we look at images later, they immediately bring us back to that moment.

The baby you first fall in love with when he is born will look nothing like the three-month old that steals your heart with their giggles, or the six-month old that is full of belly laughs. Time flies by and before you know it, they’re walking, talking and exploring the world like a big kid.

Take the time to stop the clock and cherish that sweet brand new baby’s face with a newborn session!

What is the best time for a newborn photo session?

Every baby is different, and you decide on when you want a newborn session for your baby, depending on how you feel after giving birth, and how your baby sleeps or on your feeding schedule...

It is recommended to hold a shoot when your baby is one or two weeks old. During the first 10-14 days of life newborn babies usually sleep deeply and can easily be posed, it's easier to open their palms and show tiny fingers in pictures. It's more comfortable for them to be moulded into an adorable position. 

That being said, it's not the rule, and an optimal age for newborn sessions is up to 8 weeks old.

During these older newborn baby photography sessions we mostly use wraps and layers, and the outfits that mom/dad prepare, because the majority of newborn props and newborn outfits only fit newborn babies up to 14 days old. It may also take more time to pose the older baby, and he can be awake through the whole session.

Where will the session take place?

Sessions may be held in your home, in a studio in downtown Calgary, or even outdoors.

In-home newborn photo sessions are the most popular. It's just simply comfortable for you and your baby. You don't need to get ready and go anywhere, and you have everything at home to feed and comfort you precious bundle of joy, to wash and change the baby if needed.

Outdoor sessions are usually shorter and include only one outfit for the baby.

What kind of images will I get?

Naturally posed baby photos, close ups of little details including toes, fingers, lips, and cheeks, and all kind of lifestyle portraits. You'll probably like images of your baby curled up, sleeping, yawning, and just being themselves, maybe some newborn single portraits in a crib or bassinet, or just on a bed, wrapped in a swaddle or laying in blankets. Plus candid shots of mom/dad/siblings with the baby, and a portrait of the whole family.

And if it's an in-home session then your home becomes a nice background for your family photos.
